Comment:

after installing the windows xp pro sp1 update and restarting my comp, i get an error message that the system has recovered from a serious error. then when i clik on the error report

for the error signature it says:
BCCode : d1 BCP1 : 00001000 BCP2 : 00000002 BCP3 : 00000000
BCP4 : 00001000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 1_0 Product : 256_1

then when i clik on the thing to see stuff on the web it says:
Thank you for submitting an error report. The error was likely caused by:

A hardware failure reported by your Central Processing Unit (CPU)

This behavior occurs because your computer processor detected an unrecoverable hardware error and reported it to Windows. For more information, contact the manufacturer of your computer.

does this mean i need a new CPU!? i just bought this. My mobo, cpu and memory is just a week old! i havent seen any other problems other than my unreal tournament problem:

I'm a little dense today so let me see if I got this right. You changed motherboard, cpu, memory without bothering XP and then you installed SP1? Or you installed XP Pro and SP1 after you did the upgrade?

Thanks for the clarification. I'm not a big XP user (I dual boot Me and XP) but it doesn't sound like a cpu problem. I think we need input from an experienced XP user at this point.

I agree with Skip - you should try the winxp forum and say you did a fresh install of winxp, ran windows update, then got that message.

Its been said that the best burn-in test for a new system is to install windows. If you installed it and it booted to the desktop, its unlikely you have a hardware problem.

If you reboot and get that error every time there is a patch for it here. Install the patch and see if it takes care of it also check your pagefile settings and make sure it is on system managed size.

If you chose the archive file option during the service pack update, then you can uninstall it. If you did not then I suggest you reinstall it with the archive file option selected and then uninstall it.

Really? System Ram... That may be my problem

I own the ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe. not sure of the version but i bought it around Christmas time. and for the last 3 months i have had problems installing programs/games i have been told that its the DMA of the IDE, which was a temporary fix, but it keeps comming back and i have already RMA'd the mobo through Newegg and still have the install (CRC) problems. so maybe it is the system RAM i have a Gig 512 Corsair xms PC3200 and 512 corsair xms PC2700.

please reply if its a problem because of 2 different speeds of ram, that anyone knows of off the top of their head! THANKS A BUNCH.

my computer Roxzors and suxzors at the same time!
