I want to upgrade my processor, but I have no idea what I could upgrade it to. I currently have an Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.60GHz. I went to the dell site to see if I could get any info on the processor I could upgrade to and I didn't find anything so I went to CPUID.com and downloaded the program CPU-Z. This is the info it gave me on the mother board:

Dell Computer Corporation
Model: 0k3227
Chipset: Intel i855GM/GME Rev. A2
Southbridge: Intel 82801DB (ICH4-M)
LPCIO: NS

I was wanting to upgrade to 2.8GHz, but I don't know if I have to stick to an Intel Celeron or if I can use a P4.

You need RAM, not a CPU. Your laptop can accept up to 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2700 SODIMM. Newegg has a 1GB stick of Corsair on sale for $35 after rebate w/free shipping:

Going from 2.6 to 2.8GhZ would do absolutely nothing. You need more ram as Jam said.

I've already looked into the ram issue, but the guy who looked at my laptop said the processor is bad. I figured I might as well upgrade it, but before I do that, I want to find out what my laptop can handle and if it's worth the cost.

I don't see anything written about the system being unusable/unbootable? If the laptop works, the processor is not bad. If it's slow, it's most likely because you only have 256MB RAM. You may also have a lot of crap loading and/or malware & viruses...couple that with 256MB RAM & you have system that will run at a snail's pace.

I would NOT go back to the "guy" who told you the cpu is bad as he does not know what he is talking about. Once you have used up your ram you are running off the hard drive and NO cpu will help that situation.
