Subject: need help with my P4 2.6 gighz OCOS: XP proCPU/Ram: 2.6 gighz/1 gig |
Comment: hi i just bought a motherboard combo from compu buzz and so far i'm not impressed. currently it is only running at 1.3 gighz, and i want it at 2.6 gighz. i mean i paid for a 2.6 not a 1.3. anyways every single time i try to overclock it to get 2.6 speeds it crashes my computer. this means i can't even start my computer and get into windows. it won't even let me do that. the screen never comes on. so i have to take out the battery on the motherboard to reset the bios and it sucks cause i can't get any where. does any one know how i can get 2.6 speeds with out my computer crashing? also does anyone know of some software that will allow me to overclock it in windows? and also is it possible to buy a CPU that is already 2.6 without it having the need to be overclocked, and without it being pricey. please let me know as i'm extrmeley dissapointed. thanks

Reply: (edit)I agree with YO...sounds like the FSB setting...your multiplier is locked so it can't be changed or set incorrectly. And it's not overclocking if all you're trying to do is set your CPU to run at the proper speed. Which P4/2.6 do you have...the 533 or 800 FSB version? Your settings should either be 19.5 x 133mhz...or 13 x 200mhz.

Reply: (edit)If you paid for a 2.6 GHz CPU, it should run at that speed right out of the box. I have never dealt with CompuBuzz personally, but found the following info about them from actual customers thru Resellerratings.com. Check out the link: http://www.resellerratings.com/seller2078.html Maybe you should contact them and try to RMA the CPU/MB combo if possible.

Reply: (edit)You're gonna RMA because the FSB setting is wrong? That's like returning a car because the tire pressure is too low!
