OS: Xp Home
CPU/Ram: Intel e4500/1.5Gb
Product: Custom
Comment:

Ok so i've been reading about overclocking cpu's for about a week now and i just bought me the following:

XFX nForce 680i LT SLI Motherboard,1333MHZ FSB

Intel Core2 Duo E4500 Processor 2.20GHz, 2MB Cache, 800MHz FSB, Allendale

ZEROtherm / Butterfly BTF90 / Socket Copper Base / Heatpipes / CPU Cooler

RAM: Cruical DDR 1.5Gb pc2700 333mhz

(i forgot the arctic five application =( )

I want to get my cpu to at least 3.ghz

And i understand i gotta change my fsb freq. (if my multipliyer is locked) or if its not, change the multipliyer higher and lower my fsb and lowering or rasing my vcore voltage while lowering my ram timings.

Long story short....

if anybody can give me advice in the "noobiest" way possible i would appreciated it.

i heard ppl saying they can get the e4500 to 3.ghz and keeping voltage at stock but ppl say alot of things....

i need like a "overclock for dummies" lol

but i am aware of cpu-z and prime 95 and all the torture tests after every change and resetting the bios incase s--- goes wrong and watching my temp.

I 'm just confused about what to change what to leave alone and can i get to 3.ghz without changing alot of s---

Ok so stupid me actually thought the previous ram i had in my dell will work for my new Mobo XD. So i am gonna get some DDR2 800 MHZ 2.gb......i feel like a f---in dumbass hahaha and of course i got to change the stock psu it is 450watts but it is a stock psu....maybe a 600 watt one will be better. not to mention buying 2 more 120mm fans

the ram i mentioned in the previous post is the one i had in my dell.(i would be even more pissed off if i acutally payed for the mistake lol)

There are none so ENSLAVED,than those who think they are free when they are not....

If you are going for a power supply, I suggest this

because besides wattage you also need amperage as well.

And this one has TRIPLE +12V rails

I think you should have spent a little more time reading. Unless you intend to run two video cards, you would have been better off getting a motherboard based on the Intel P35 chipset. It's faster, runs cooler & overclocks better. For example:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...

BTW, you do NOT need "Arctic 5"...your new HSF will come with it's own paste (or pad). And obviously you're gonna have to get different memory. You can get 2GB (2 x 1GB) of DDR2-800 performance RAM for about $30 after rebate:

http://shop2.outpost.com/product/53...

Also, you're incorrect about your overclocking theory. FSB is where the performance is....you should lower the CPU multi & raise the FSB, not the other way around. Since your board supports 1333MHz FSB (333MHz) & you hope to increase the CPU clock to 3.0GHz, you should shoot for 9.0 x 333MHz. The RAM should also be manually configured to run at 333MHz (DDR667) to match the CPU. RAM timings are the least of your worries....leave them be.

As for the power supply, 450W *may* be enough. It depends on the brand & how the amperages are distributed across the voltage rails & whether you're gonna run two video cards or not. If you need a new PSU, you'd be much better off getting one with a single +12v rail with high amperage instead of one with multiple +12v rails like was recommended above. This Corsair 550W unit has 41A on the single +12v rail:

Um, No!

Volts X Amps = Watts so Amperage is included in the Wattage Rating!

Uhhhh, the amperage has to be distributed properly across the various rails or the PSU will be a piece of crap. Most people are clueless when it comes to PSUs & just buy based on wattage & price. *Some* manufacturer's use that to their advantage & load up the amperage on the under-used rails (usually the +5v) to falsely inflate the overall wattage rating of the unit. If you see a PSU with 50A on the +5v rail, that can account for as much 250W.

Never buy a PSU based on wattage alone!

Get the corsair VX550watt 12v single rail, less than £50 at play.com (delivered)

It's very good has long leads and connections for just about everything.
