Hey guys I have an Abit NF7 SG2 or something like that anyway...well my processor runs at 266FSB which on the motherboard I believe translates down to 133mhz FSB frequency...well I did something stupid... Bumped it up to 266mhz and saved to CMOS and tried to reboot... The motherboard shut it down before it could do anything I've cleared the CMOS and now the computer comes on...However it won't get past the white counter across the bottom of the screen before windows loads...basically now it just hangs at the windows startup and doesn't go any further...Should I just reinstall windows? Or is it time to shop for a new processor?

Anyway please help any advice would be great.

If you still reach windows bootscreen it's unlikely you blew the cpu. But your ram maybe damaged with the 533MHz you shot at it!

Download memtest86, run the installation to a floppy disc and boot your system with that. Run the test or 2 or 3 hours if there are no errors at first.

Or you should check all your bios setting because some settings maybe wrong in default setting (cpu included).

Thanks, I'll try that. There is an initial memory test when the computer starts out and that says it runs ok but I'll try the memtest86 I appreciate it.

Sounds like you messed up your hard drive. I don't think you did any permanent damage. More then likely you just have to reinstall Windows.

Couldn't get memtest86 to run, but I did download a microsoft memory test and ran extended test on all 3 sticks of my memory and everything tested fine... I ran windows repair and it was booting up, however there are certain files that I can't access anymore due to unknown errors, I am going to try to reinstall everything over again.

However I couldn't get it to run, everytime during the windows setup my computer kept shutting down and my motherboard is making an alarm sound I dunno what to do? I've ran memory test so does that completely eliminate that? There are also no sign of bulging on any of the electronice components around the CPU... Any other ideas as to what it might be?
