Folks,
my lightly overclocked system shows about 58C at idle. I use the stock cooler fan. The case is the Antec P180.

Running some torture tests, it does not go above 68C. It has been stable since I made this two weeks ago.

The E6400 is oc to 2.75GHz. I know I can go higher, but this is fine enough. (If more detailed BIOS/system specs are needed, let me know.)

So:
Are these temps OK?

If not, what is an acceptable temp for torture and idle?

TIA!

- Rob

From what I've read, the E6400 generally idles about 40C +/- so either your temp readings are off, or your HSF isn't installed properly.

Try running "Core Temp" & see what it reports for your temp:

CoreTemp reports 55C.

It is overclocked...so, is the 40C idle for 2.13GHz, or you think that 40C should be 2.75GHz?

I did press on each corner of the fan, and they all clicked in place.

But it's a good "errrrr" for the computer. I guess it needs it.

Thanks Jam!

I just bought the Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7.

"I just bought the Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7"

That may or may not have been necessary. Before buying a new HSF, I'd have pulled the "old" HSF, cleaned off the thermal material, applied a fresh layer of paste, then tried again

I was able to get it for about $19.

There was some good write ups about it anywho, and it seems to work well.

Again, thanks for your quick responses Jam.

Aha!

That 3% now makes some sense - I totally overlooked the E4300 Allendale (4%) inclusion - that CPU barely just broke out......LOL......thanks TMP-Man

Since the newly released E4300 is also posed as the poor man's C2D - I expect the sum (%) of its users to rocket up there with the E6300 or surpass it pretty soon.
