Hi. I want to upgrade my old computer so it can run WindowsXP, but someone told me it wasn't fast enough, so maybe 'overclocking' will do the trick. The manual says it's an 8088 processor, so first off I don't see why it won't work if so many people with only 1600 or 1700's can run WindowsXP. Also, it doesn't have a cd drive, only two floppy drives, so I'll have to put the cd onto the floppies so it can run from there. They're about the same size, so it shouldn't be much of a problem. But I need to get it overclocked first, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Oh, and it already has a 'turbo' mode, so maybe I don't have to overclock it too much. And it has 640 memory, I know that's more than the 128 that I need.

Do you have a HD? What size? 10MB?
I don't think that is enough.

Dude...you aint going to get windows 3.1 to run on a 8088 processor. 8088 processors had a speed of 4.77 mhz. I think its fair to say its time for an upgrade.

This is either a bad joke or someone seriously needs a class in computers and electronics. ROFLMAO.

If this is a serious question, I apologize, but win XP just isn't going to happen on the computer that you describe.

The 640 memory that you're talking about is 640 kilobytes, not the 128 MEGABYTES that winxp recommends. A Meg is 1000 kilobytes.

Next problem, trying to get that cd onto floppies. Not too likely, sorry.

This just has to be a joke, right?

I hope to god that was a joke, Even if you over clock that 8088, which I'm not sure how you would do that it wouldn't run DOS, LOL!! I think you need a new computer man, a 486 would be a big step!

actually im typing on a xp / 8088cpu right now! all you need to do is build your computer in a freezer and use compression on the hd, wire a 0.001 ohm resistor across the physical hard drive platters ( connecting platter to platter ) to get an extra mb of storage. as for ram 640Kb will load notepad fine
