i recently overclocked my 550Mhz Pentium 3 to 600Mhz. (though i know pentiums are noy particularly overclockable :D ).
i used this (simply) cooling idea for expt. purpose and had the system running cpu intensive applns like games running for 4 hrs flat without a prob.... may be someone could use it too :::I removed the cover of the cabinet and directed the air from a heavy duty table fan, directly onto the cpu and mother board.
room temp:: ~30 C.
well, what do you think?

Well, the only problem, you can get alot of dust that way, I had to do that also when I first overclock, but i had to dust every other day. (aircan)

The fan will work of course but it lets junk in your system and for what?
Increase the fan mods in your sealed system for better cooling overall. Also OC 550 to 600 seems kind of senseless but its your system happy overclocking.

you really think that a 50 more mhz is worth all that trouble??????? Thats probably a 1 percent in performance. If that.

p4sucks,
the idea here of cooling techniques, not performance improvements!
if this method works for a PENTIUM overclocked to 10% more than its rated speed, it must work comfy with celerons and AMDs that are overclockable....right?
thats the idea of the post....Regards,

550 to 600 is overclocked 9.1%. The actual performance gain may be less. The cooling method is not great, but will work. The best way to cool is to channel air through the case forcing hot air out and away from components and drawing cooler air in. The other way you described mixes the cooler air and the warmer air instead of replacing it and requires more air to do the same amount of cooling.

Yes, you make perfect sense DAVE,
i must have realised that as an Electronics student.
I would have loved to give cpu temp stats, but none of the s/w available give me sensible readings...
one of those softwares indicated 89 C at no load and the same reading even when overclocked to 600 Mhz.others with my range of P3s (on i810D board) seem to be having the same prob...any guesses??
tnx. dave!-Kailas

Want cooling. Get a Peltier Fridge Fan.
Got my old p266 up to 433 running stable, no probs, no crashing, nothing for months until I took it apart.
Those things are the best (but make sure you seal it all up with a good sealant (I used plumbers mate).

thats the idea of the post....) DAVE....)lol...you serious?...opening up the case and sticking a fan near the cpu?..And for a p3 at that. I really thought this was a joke post. And the 1 percent was a typo...suppose to be 10 and not 1 percent. It dont matter if its a 220mhz overclock jump, opening up the case and sticking a table lol... fan near the cpu is not a cooling technique. I can see novice overclockers now going to walmart and getting the fastest room fan and taking off their covers and reporting sub zero cpu temps and bragging. And then the next post he writes is (Can someone please help me get my computer started?) man that will work for any cpu...lol...for a while till the dust build up.
