"my cpu wont start" CPU = Central Processing Unit

How did you ascertain this piece of Silicon is not starting up ?

First thing is to try another Power Supply, though be sure it is compatable as HP sometimed use Proprietary PSU's

Exactly. Many people mistakenly refer to their PC tower & everything inside of it as a CPU, but that's not correct. A CPU is a chip within the computer tower. Here's an example of one:

Did you open the case to see if it's loaded with dust? Your problem is most likely the power supply, but do some troubleshooting before you buy anything.

well, srry, my computer wouldnt start. i checked all the cords, and power stuff. i got it to come on, BUT, when i did, it was running fine, fans and all that stuff, but my monitor, had the orange powerlight on, like when its shut down. i turned the monitor off, then back on and the light was green for a second, then the moniter went back like i had shut the computer off, but it was still runnin fine. and it is ALL clean.
