So my computer is restarting itself constantly and freezing on occasion. When I boot into Bios the Ideal Temps it gives me are Motherboard 27C and CPU 56C
Is this high ? is this causing my problems? and should i be checking the temps under a load ?

i dont think so i think ram is the issue.. my system also goes from 46 to 56 C and mother board is too around 50s it runs fine, if you have 2 sticks or ram try using one at a time may be one of them is faulty..
it could also be something else but ram is the usual case in helds and restarts
cheers

Thanks for the reply,
I've heard this already, and tried removing the each piece of ram (I have 2 512) but the problem prosisted regardless of which piece i had installed
Could they both be faulty ? should i try and get a known good stick and try that ??

hmmmm its rare that both would be faulty, or may be both would be ok something else is at fault...
borrow ram from your friend and try that if u wana be sure hehehe..

56C is high at idle...especially with a system temp of only 27C.
You never mentioned what CPU you have?

ok I'll try that...
what else could be wrong though !!! I've changed the power supply, reinstalled windows. CLeaned the CPU (didnt yet, but plan to reapply thermal paste even though you say my temps seem ok)
Only thing left are my hard drive and motherboard... but would either really cause restarts/Freezes like this ?
It will also close applications by them selfs from time to time, they just disappear with no error message (But my web browser and some other applications also tend to error far more frequently lateley aswell)

Its an Intel Pentium 4 3Ghz...
For some reason when the computer restarts itself now my USB and FLoppy drivers and going missing and windows is detecting the new hardware on start up (only some times)
It also just chugged like it was going to restart a few mins ago, but Froze and left a Red bar about half an inch across the top of the screen
Could it be a faulty hard drive ? keeps causing the restarts

Possibilities:
- bad RAM - test with memtest86 or memtest86+
- overheating - 56C at idle is on the high side, but not if your CPU is a Prescott
- weak power supply - you said you replaced it but you didn't say what your old one was or what your new one is. Amperage on the +3.3v, +5v, & +12v rails are what's important, wattage is 2ndary
- driver issues
- incorrect BIOS settings.

Does it goto the XP loading screen and load then briefly show the blue screen of death for about .5 seconds than restart? If so, I just had this happen to my old computer. It turned out to be my video card. I just took the video card out of the PCIe slot and plugged my monitor to the normal integrated one. Started up just fine. And my CPU never goes over 43ÂșC. If thats any consolation. (I'm an avid gamer aswell.)
