Hi guys. I currently built my new box. Its an ASUS Terminator K& box with the A7VC motherboard. I have an AMD Athlon XP 1700. Since the box was small I was paranois about CPU temp, well all I did was reverse the case fan and now my CPU runs at a constant 47-degrees Celsius! Simple mod and that's it. I was wondering if any of you other guys had some nice CPU temps to post. I'm only using the OEM cooling fan/heatsink that came with my AMD 1700XP. It just kind of surprises me that my CPU stays that cool while other guys post temps of greater than 55C with OEM coolers.

Most PC's I build with between Duron 1.2 and Athlon 1900XP run between 45 and 52 degrees C with OEM fans and Arctic Silver in midi tower cases.

My PC, an Athlon 1.33 runs at 35 idle but it has more fans and a blank left out of the from to aid air flow. At 100% it goes up to 58.

Temperatures differentiate from the machines with the SAME processors due to SEVERAL factors, and not just the type of FHS that you use. This forum is always full of those posts . . .

A mini tower with small PS will cause a chip to run warmer than a mid-tower - due to everything being cramped up.

A case with vented side covers will allow for better circulation, thereby dropping temps a bit over same size cases without ANY type of side vents.

A couple of extra case fane, one in front and one in rear, will provide optimum temps. Many people who post on this forum have just a nice FHS combo - or just ONE case fan - and sometimes more thna one case fan.

ROOM temperature in your home will make an incredible difference, i.e. having the PC near the window, a heater, on the carpet, and so on.

BREATHING SPACE is very important too. I case inside of an enclosed desk, behind a fancy little door, will run MUCH warmer than a case that has a minimum of 6 inches breathing space on all sides.

*MOST* people only think about internal cooling and the FHS combo, whihc is a real shame since adequate cooling can be accomplished on numerous different levels. Hope this helps.

Hey Intel, AMD rulez!

Leembo, yeah my box sits in the direction of where my A/C blows and I pulled 2 empty PCI slit covers off and the air is really flowing out of the box! Mine sits on my table with nothing on the sides or in the rear of it so It gets very good air flow coming in....I wish I could go water-cooled but the ASUS Terminator boxes are so small it's not an option. But all in all I am thinking about either getting a more powerful case fan to blow more CFM's or opening up more air holes in the case.....

My XP 1600+, overclocked to 1838MHz is running at 51c full load. I ain't worrying cause it's completely stable. Also I have an Asus A7V333R so the temps are probly gonna report a little higher. But Mobo Monitor says my internal diode is at 54c full load. That's still well within acceptable limits meh thinks ;)

Pulling the PCI slot covers off will actually increase your temps because it will redirect the proper flow of the air tunnel inside the case away from the CPU.

When i first built my box (amd 1600+ & ECS K7S5A Mobo) i was getting cpu temps of like 65c, i threw a case fan on back of cpu and one on side of case (had to cut hole) then i rounded m cables and zap strapped everything nicely out of the way. Now at full load i go no higher than 49c : )

When I post my temps, someone usually gives me some crap about living in an igloo.

I have an Athlon 1.4GHz on a Gigabyte 7ZXE MOBO in an Enlight case with one front and one rear fan. I have a Volcano 7 with generic thermal paste and use CpuIdle 5.9. My OS is WIN98SE.

Using Motherboard Monitor for the last 12 hours, my low temp was 23 C, my high 44C and my average 25 C. I’ve seen a CPU temp as high as 54 C. Right now, as I write this, my temp is 30 C.
