Here's what I have...

Athlon XP 3000+
Asus A7N8X-X Mobo
2x 512 DDR Ram (not sure on the speed)

When I built the system I had 1 512 ddr stick, I upgraded to a 2nd one about a month ago and when I put it in I wasn't able to boot my comp, it just hung before the RAM test. I played around with the settings in CMOS and finally got it to boot up with both sticks of RAM. I was poking around earlier and noticed that my CPU Frequency is set at 1040 mhz, but I checked a list that said it should be something more like 2000 mhz. I have the settings set for Optimal, any time I change to manual it freezes up.

You need to check BIOS or a Motherboard jumper setting to get correct settings. Have you read the Manual ??

I have the same board & there definitely is a FSB jumper involved. Are you sure you CPU ever ran at the correct speed? It appears the FSB jumper is set for 100MHz(200FSB). Your CPU runs at either 166MHz(333FSB) or 200MHz(400FSB). I suspect you have the 200MHz(400FSB) version.

There are a lot of BIOS settings that should be tweaked to get the best performance out of that board...one of the most important things to know (besides which 3000+ you have) is what speed RAM you have. You really should have PC3200.
