my emachine wont turn on, i do have a green light on inside, but no responses. i have read previous posts and understand i am entering already covered ground, but i want to make sure before i invest any money. i believe i need to try a new PowerSupply first? i know it could also be my Motherboard. i have heard that with emachines, once the MB goes out, your screwed because it cannot be replaced. please tell me this isnt so. i dont really know what to do? i will get my exact model number and specs 2morrow. you can email me at work also, considering that is the only place i can check this.
eMachines are notorious for having bad PSUs...usually Bestec. If the fan on the PSU isn't spinning, that's a fair indication that the PSU is bad. Have you opened the case yet? Have you EVER opened the case? If not, it could be loaded with dirt/dust. Try blowing out the dust with compressed air, do NOT use a vacuum. Make sure all cooling fans spin freely & that there's no dust buildup on heatsinks or fan blades. Use a small brush if necessary but be careful. Blow the dust out of the PSU too.
If you need to replace the PSU, determine what type you currently have (ATX or microATX) & shop around for a replacement. Plan on spending at least $30-40 for something decent. Here's one possibility:
i have checked inside...i upgraded just about everything myself...i just dont know how to fix things. i purchased a simular PSU today, but am not going to be able to get around to it till later on 2night. it was really dusty inside, and there was a lot collected around the many fans i have inside. i am going to blow that out carefully and replace the PSU tonight, i will repost results 2morrow. thanks a million.
ok, new power supply installed, still no response when trying to turn the computer on. MB does have a green light on still, same as with old PSU. i am clueless now.
It is possible you have a loose connection, check them all, specially the main one to the mother board. Have a look right into the holes to see if theres any dust/debris and clean it if so.
Another problem could be the actual switch to the motherboard connection, if you been installing and pulling cards you might have bumped it. Follow the wires from the switch on the case to the motherboard and check over those to be safe.
Other then that it would boil down to the mother board itself, one or more capacitors could be dead or damaged. Look over the capacitors to see if ones bent over or less then shiny on the top or for any charing on the motherboard itself.
