Pc info:
Enermax 300Watt Psu
Thermaltake Volcano 6cu
AthlonXP 1700+ @ default

idle temperature @ 52 degrees celcius
Room temp @ 20 degrees celcius

I think my CPU temp is too hot... Its not acceptable.. what can i do to lower it??... I'm desperate here because such high temperature causes my PSU fan to speed up trying to lower my CPU temperature which make my PC sounds like a power generator!!! I need so advice here.

Believe it or not, that is a fairly normal temperature, but if you want to do something here are some suggestions:

Did you use thermal grease? If not, you should.

Consider buying a better power supply, especially one that has vents in the bottom.

If you don't already have one, put in a high quality case fan.

Use round cables, they will increase airflow.

You can also install drive bay fans.

Good Luck

Did you put a new fan on the Volcano 6 with a sensor or something? That HSF does not spin up or down it spins at a constant rate, the sound you get is what you're going to have to live with. And no those temperatures are just fine, nothing to worry about and trying to get your chip much cooler is about to get tedious since you've already got a decent HSF properly installed. Just leave it the way it is, buy a new 60mm CPU fan for your heatsink if you don't like the noise that much. Adding additional fans will cool it down but also add to the noise and since you're worried about that get sleeve bearing fans instead of the longer lasting ball bearing fans, thy're a lot quieter but have roughly half the lifespan.

Before going out and buying another heatsink try running your computer for a hew hours with the case open. If the cpu temp decreases significantly when you do this work on improving air circulation in the case. If there is little or no decrease make sure you installed the heatsink properly, try using thermal grease, or get a new heatsink.

Thanx for the advices. My main concern is really just the noise. I have seen most Pentium 4 PC are really really quiet.. and the only different I see in the cooling system is their CPU fan. Theirs are relatively larger than mine. So 3 questions:

1. Just wondering is there any CPU heatsink for AthlonXP than is about the same size as those in Pentium4???

2. And which brand of case fan is the MOST quiet?? (I have the Sunon 8cm ball bearing fan but its too noisy, I turned it off)

3. Is there a way I can disable the 300W Enermax PSU temperature monitoring function?? (The fan speed increases as the CPU temperature increases)

My PC info:
AthlonXP 1700+ @default
Enermax server case
Enermax 300Watt PSU with dual fan
thermaltake Volcano 6cu
SUNON 8cm ball bearing (Too noisy, turned off)
Soltek KT266A MB
512MB PC-2100DDRRAM
Leadtek Geforce 4Ti4400
Sound Blaster Audigy D.E
Creative inspires 5300 5.1 speaker
2x 10/100MB NC
16X DVDROM
40x16x10x burner
19inch LG Monitor
microsoft natural KB Pro
microsoft intellimouse Explorer 3.0
