I'm thinking my cpu temp sensor is wrong. with the bios set to optimized defaults the cpu temp reads 95C/203F

BIOS defaults are never 100% correct. For best performance, the BIOS settings should be manually configured to best match your hardware.

Obviously your temp reading isn't accurate because your CPU would fry at that temp. Try going to the motherboard manufacturer's website to see if a BIOS update is available.
