Hi Guyz!
I just want to clarify on something, but first here are the specs of my sister's computer/my old PC.
SPECS:
Motherboard: Shuttle MV42(N)
CPU: Celeron 1.7 Willamate 128k L2 Cache
System Ram: 384mb PC133
Video Card: Sparkle Nvidia Geforce 2 MX400 64mb 128 bitWell, i just want to overclock the cpu to whatever it can handle. But when i enter the bios i found out that the FSB is locked but the MULTIPLIER is unlocked.
I can raise the MULTIPLIER to 24x or 2.4ghz maximum/full. I'm just wonderin if this can help to increase my cpu performance aside from the FSB(w/c is locked).
Is it worth to overclock in the MULTIPLIER?
And why in the hell my mobo locked my FSB?
Is it my CPU who locked it?
As far as i know, INTEL locked its multiplier, but why is it that its unlock on my setup?Any help would be very appreciated.
Thanks in Advance!!!

The multiplier has been locked on all Intel CPUs since the Pentium 1 & there is no way to unlock. You may be changing the setting in the BIOS, but it's not having any effect on your CPU speed. FSB is the way to go anyway

ok thanks jam
you mean my mobo is just is bad?
I tried to increase the multiplier to a full ratio but i can't see any difference at all...Is it in the bios that has no FSB adjustments?
Should i update my bios to get the latest?
I don't want to junk this coz its my first PC or the pioneer..so i just want to upgrade it as long as it can handle...btw, what can you recommend in any upgrades in this mobo? it has two DDR266 slots aside from SD RAM slots...jumper setting.
Celeron D's are not applicable for this board/prescott...
So, what then?thankx

Just had a look at your manual & it appears that your BIOS doesn't support FSB adjustments, but there is a jumper on the board that can be changed from 100MHz (400FSB) to 133MHz (533FSB). I don't know if your 1700MHz Celeron can handle the jump to 2267MHz without a voltage increase, & I didn't see a setting for that either. You could try going the software route though. Do a google search for SoftFSB, CPUFSB or ClockGEN. Someone else mentioned SysTool from www.techpowerup.com in another thread...I never heard of that one before, but it might be worth a look as well

Ok thanks.
I tried to set the jumper to 133mhz...but when i start the computer it beeps and no display.
Anywayz, il search those appz first...
One more thing, do Willamate Celeron runs hot fast? Coz now its been 3 hours that am surfing in the net and i try to monitor my cpu temp usign speedfan that runs 51-52 degrees Celcius. So, you mean i can replace a CPU that runs at533mhz? but it says in the manual, that prescotts are not allowed? So, what Core name CPU should be compatible?
thanks
