Anyone knows of a program for lowerinng cpu idle temps on nforce2 that really works?I'm running my cpu in normal speed on a K7N2 ILSR and the temps are
52C idle
56 full load.
With my previous motherboard a gigabyte kt333 there was no problem with cpucool or cpuidle. Now none of them seems to work and I've tried even wcpredit and speedfan4.13 but even if the settings seem ok there is no drop in temps.I also have disabled all the extra features like on board audio, lan etc and my cpu is really idle.

Hello,

I take it your useing the same cpu in your new mobo...?..
personally i dont trust those programs , so i would focas more on your cooling..

Good airflow and a nice HSF .. I used to have a volcano 11 HSF .. That worked a treat..
Also remember that not all mobo's give the correct temp..

XP3000 Pre-week 39/03
Antec 550w psu
Abit NF7s V2.0 Mobo
2x512mb Pc3500xms Corsair
Twin 10k sata WD-Raptors
Radeon 9800xt 256mb
Waterchill cooling system.

Yes I've got the 2000xp and I have the all copper GlobalWΙΝ CAK 4-88T and arctic silver5 and enough ventilation.Temps reported are the correct ones.I think I'll try some watercooling or peltier kit.

If i'm not mistaken... i've heard 2000xp's run hot anyway...
Those CPU's can take alot of heat so i would'nt worry..
An awfull lot of people worry about there cpu temps when they dont need to..

I still think you could do with a better HSF.. there are better ones on the market..

bavel,

There are a few things that could make your current 52C idle reading an acceptable temparature, but a lot of times people fail to include those factors in their thread.

0. Your room temperature.
1. CPU overclock.
2. CPU core type.
3. Accuracy of the reading. (BIOS/Windows utility).

There are two variations of the 1800+ both with a clock speed of 1533MHz (133x11.5), if you have the Palomino, your temps will be higher that if you had the Thoroughbred core because of the Vcore differences. So long as you have a threshold temp setup in the BIOS worryless about those numbers (actually hide 'em).

Lastly your CPU for one will NOT! buckle under your current temps so the watercooling or peltier kit I know looks very tempting to you, fact remains it is a want not a need. For what you are going to spend on it you can get a much faster CPU that will most likely run cooler provided the factors @ the beginning of this post is considered.

Goodluck.

Overclocking_freak,

Thanks for bringing that oversight to my attention, I never did get the 1800+ post I last responded to off my skull, but the post still hold true if we assume the 1800+ to be 2000+.

my cpu is a thoroughbred 2000xp and you have guessed well
133x12.5 = 1667ghz
1.65v Vcore.
I am not terribly conserned about the temps and I know it won't hurt my pc but I am pissed off that the halt commands don't work with nforce 2. Anyone knows in what temps are the 2800xps or 3000xp running? And should barton or thoroughbred run cooler? You know greek summer is great... but not for computing(room temp 29c and system 43c when idle with open case)

You have just answered your temp question..
The greek summer..!!
Generally (in my experience) bartons run a bit cooler..
But in the end it all comes down to your cooling, and as you have just said "room temp is 29c".
