I don't think I've ever ran into a problem this utterly frustrating to the point where I just want to give up, and go hide in a corner. AOpens, phone tech support is basically non-existent, so this is the only place I can go for help.
Okay, I recently put my PC together with an Ak73 pro mobo, and a 800 Mhz AMD Duron. Everything was working fine, I installed Windows XP, finally got all of the drivers for the CDRW, etc. Everything was GREAT!!! Then, me and a friend were using a program called N-Track studio which is basically voice recording software. The problem is, after a while, the system would just completely lock up and freeze, and I'd have to pull the power to reboot it. This NEVER happened before I started using N-Track, as we'd kept the computer on for hours before surfing the net, and burning CD's. Well, we finally realized what caused the system to lock up, as it seemed that every time MSN Messager would try to start, it would interfere with N-Track, and the system would go cold. So, I went into MSCONFIG, disabled the MSN Messager, and it seemed like all was fine and dandy.
Then it happened, for some reason, MSN Messager popped up one last time and the system hung up of course. I did the usual course of action, powered off the PC. However, this time when I tried to reboot, I was hit with a message from the Dr. Voice (Talking Motherboard Feature) that said, "YOUR CPU MAY HAVE A PROBLEM." I was shocked, in awe, and essentially stunned to death. After I recovered from my horrors, I checked the motherboard, made sure the CPU wasn't fried or burnt, cleared CMOS, made sure all jumpers were fine etc. Still got the message "YOUR CPU MAY HAVE A PROBLEM." So, then I removed all of the connections sans the DIMMS, the ATX power, and the processor. Still go the same message :(.
So, I was like well damn the CPU must be fried. It was a used CPU btw, so I thought that this may be a possibility. However, I just found it odd that all of the sudden the CPU would just die like that. So, I gathered my pennies, and went out and bout a 1200 MHZ Duron this time brand new, in the box. Installed this processor...
"YOUR CPU MAY HAVE A PROBLEM."
Okay, after nearly going insane, I have come to the conclusion that neither CPU is fried, and that the motherboard must be to blame. That's the only thing I can think of. The CPU's were all handled with extreme care, installed with care, had plenty of cooling, so I know that's not an issue. My question is, how in the world did the motherboard die so fast? How in the world did this happened when we were just using a program on the computer?
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY TIPS or HELP before I do harm to the rest of the computer and go into a nervous breakdown. I'm building this PC for a friends mother, and she spent her hard earned money on me because they trust me. Now my intelligence, and reputation is being put on the line here... PLEASE help me out...
