I have acquired an old PC -HP Brio Intel Celeron 600mhz and I am trying to upgrade it so I can let somebody else have it. I want to know what CPU I will be able to install.Could anybody help
a celeron 600 is a socket 370 with a 66mhz fsb. If your board doesn't support a 100mhz fsb, your not going to be able to go much higher and, it won't be worth the effort. How much ram does it have? Does it have integrated graphic or a seperate card? Take the case off and have a look, if your lucky maybe it has an agp slot and you can pick up a graphics card for $20. With a machine that old, you need to blow out the dust anyway. Get a can of compress air, with the skinny straw like attachment. Concentrate on the cpu fan and the power supply, hold the fans with a pencil as you blow them off, so they do not spin. If you can pick up a graphics card for $20 and bump up the ram for $10, you will have done ok, don't spend more then this. Some will think even that is to much to spend.
Hi Thanks for your help. I have already upgraded the RAM to 256mb and may even increase this more. I have installed a new 20gb hard drive and I am contemplating installing a graphics card. I think that I maybe able to go to a 1.1ghz processor although as you have said the celeron 600 is a socket 370 with a 66mhz fsb and I am not sure how to determine whether my board will support up to a 100mhz fsb
My guess is you have a Brio BA410. Regardless, you should have stated the model number right from the start so we don't all have to waste our time guessing.
