I'm in the process of building a computer but i've ran into a few problems. I have a ECS K7S5A motherboard with a 1.4ghz Athlon processor and 256mb of PC2100 RAM. Whenever I try to boot up, the power comes on, all the fans are running fine, but nothing pops up on the monitor. Ive tried everything from checking the power supply, to swapping out video cards (geforce pro and radeon) and hard drives but nothing does the trick. I have also tried clearing cmos but that doesnt work either. Its like the computer keeps restarting over and over because the lights on the cdrom and cd burner start flashing. Ive also disconnected everything just to see if I could get into cmos. Help would be appreciated.

I know what the problem is. There is a compatablity problem with that mobo, cpu and RAM. Put another CPU in it, or run pc133 ram in it.

Joe: That board is unpredictable at best. Some work perfectly while others have a whole slew of problems. A good portion of them end up being RMA'd back to Elite Group.
Your best bet for help on that motherboard is www.ocworkbench.com Click on the ECS forum link. There has been more than 30 thousand posts there regarding that board and you are likely to get the best help from other builders who have solved the problems you are having. When that board is dialed in it's rock-solid stable. Good luck.

I had the same issue with the same board. However, I had the same issue with a different board as well. I tested the cpu in another comp, cpu is fine.

You need to check your power supply. After days of testing, we found out that switching p/s's fixed the issue. But to be on the safe side, you might wanna check your cpu as well.

Also, the ECS board is highly recommended by many techs. It isnt a big name brand like Asus, but for its price, I have heard good things about ECS and the SiS chipset. Hope this helps you out.
Good luck! :)

I have built 3 systems for people with this board and the main prob has been the graphics card, several times i thought i had inserted the cards correctly but in the end thats what it came down to. Graphics cards which appeared to be correctly inserted but were NOT! card would just not init.

By the way, a friend of mine thought it might be the memory on his as it would crash whilst running DDR 2100 ram, but if he switched back to pc133 it would work fine. In the end it was his graphics card. Once again not inserted correctly. Odd symptoms tho'. hope this helps

Alright, I tried another power supply and pc 133 ram and neither did the trick. My only guess is that its the cpu but I have no other way of testing it because my other comp is a p3. Is there anyway to tell if the cpu is bad from just looking at it because i would hate to send it back and it end up being something else.

There are also many problems with the Athlon 1.4 GHz as a chip.

At the time of revision of 7.1, the following RAM manufacturers were verified by ECS
Samsung, Hyundai, Micron, EliteMT, and Winbond. ALL OTHERS ARE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

Joe, look at the silver piece sticking out from the top of your processor. If there's ANY chips ANYWHERE in that, you need a new processor.

I have had the same problem when trying to install a Netgear FA311 NIC. I would suggest removing all the boards you can and then power up.

I too am having problems similar to this. K7S5A 1.4Ghz Win 2000. Odd thing is that the board performs fine under a win98 platform. Win 2000 pro and server both give me the same problem: OS initiates fine, I'm even able to work for a few minutes as thought nothing is wrong and then WHAM! HD led is still on but no signal to the monitor. the computer doesn't reboot, just stops sending signal to the monitor.
Any solid solutions????????????????
RMA maybe.

JOE, did you perhaps slip with the screw driver when taking the heatsink off chip, and jam into motherboard??? this is what I did, and had the very exsact same problem, fortunetly, the motherboard was undet warrenty, and the computer gazoo's could not figure what was wrong (considering i did not tell them) so i got a new free one..
