i have an abit aa8 3rd eye motherboard. i built my own system this week and havent been able to get it working.

Does this motherboard work with a Intel PentiumĀ® 4 550 3.4GHz 800FSB LGA 775 CPU with 1MB Cache processor?

link = http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=6680&&source=Dealtime

it supports HT and is apprently ment to work with it?

This is the spec:

Intel PentiumĀ® 4 550 3.4GHz 800FSB LGA 775 CPU with 1MB Cache (link above)

1gb crucial memory module DDR2 PC2-3200 CL=3 UNBUFFERED NON-ECC DDR2-400 1.8V 28Meg x 64V

160gb SATA hard drive

pci (not pci-express) just the normal pci nvidia g-force fx5200 128mb gfx card

This is what i get when i turn it on. POST displays these messages.

I turn on the power supply but not the ON switch for the case. The LED screen displays the number .2 then shortly changes to 0.0.

When i turn on the ON switch on the case the POST display shows :
83 then 87 then 89 then 9.0

After this all it does is stay on 90

A mate told me it is an overclock failure but i havent modified anything. It came 3.4 standard and ive just put it all together this morning. It did work earlier tho. i got a screen asking to press tap or del key. I managed to get onto the bio setting, but then it shorty restarted itself and hasnt worked since.

When it worked i got messages like C1 flashing away.

I am stuck and dont know what to do. Ive tried everything i know.

Maybe you can shed some light.

Thanks Andrew Orchard

1st of all, get the code info...it should be in the manual or at the Abit website.

2nd, you should always test a board before installing it in the case. There's no point installing it if it doesn't fire up.

Assuming you didn't do that, the next best thing would be to disconnect all the unnecessary hardware to see if you can get the board to POST. That means, unplug the HDD(s), optical drive(s), & floppy. Remove all cards but video. Remove all RAM but one stick. Disconnect all case cooling fans, mouse, & any USB devices. All you need connected to the board is the PSU, CPU w/HSF, video, one stick RAM, keyboard, & monitor...nothing else. And make sure all the case wiring it attached to the board correctly. Now see if you can boot & get into the BIOS...

The way I read the manual is that you need matching DDR2 Dimms in each channel. I think you can get away with using just one memory channel; but you need to use BOTH Slots on that channel (i.e. Dimm-1 and Dimm-2 slots = channel 1) (Dimm-3 and Dimm-4 = channel 2)

They recommend that you buy both DDR2 Dimms from the same manufacturer; to make sure they are matched.

The way you have your message laid out; I can't tell how many memory modules you have installed.

i have a fatal1ty a88xe i had the same problem the soft ware that came with the mobo installed ocguru and it has diffrent user setups to adjust diffrent levels of power to the cpu and the ram pci cards etc.
by default it loads on start up andlog on to the default account on ocguru wich oc your processor a little and tweaks diffrent hardware. I boot to safe mode and set it so that it dosent fire up on start up and i manualy adjusted the tweaks i wanted. But try what JAM said to get it fired up and see it what i said helps

I got a new PSU, problem still here. The system turns on. My monitor receives no signal. There is one long beep followed by 3 short ones, then the system just turns off. In these 10 secs all fans work but no life from the cd drive unless i disconnect it from the ide cable, then it lights up and opens. No life from the hdd at all either. Could it possible be a mobo fault, if so shud i throw the aa8 and get a new board from a respevtable company? Any help is good

Andy
