I have a clone PC with the following hardware:
- 30GB Maxtor HD Type 5 3073H4
- 384MB RAM
- Win98 SE
- AMD Athlon 1.1 Ghz
- ASUS A7V
- ASUS V7700 64MB Video Card

The question I have, is that when I check out details in BIOS, The Harddrive is setup as "Other ATAPI Device" as a Network Device.

Is this because the installer didn't know what he was doing, did it so that it was the least amount of work for him or is it that it is using the ATA-100 port?

It could be the port that it sees or the HD may have been released for sale after the design of the mother board and that is just a catch all term for any non-previously known ATAPI devices. You may see this with current modle CDROMs for example. In either case, if the HD is functioning properly and Windows doesn't see is as a "16 bit DOS mode mass storage device" the you are alright.
