Hi everyone,

any help and suggestion towards solving the following problem would be much appreciated.
I am trying to put together a system with components I have got from friends.
The manuals are however missing.
After some extensive detective work on the web, I was able to identify the motherboard. It is the
MB-4D33/NR-02 from Aquarius Systems. The company has been acquired by BCOM.
BCOM doesn't have howeevr no support for this motherboard.
The chips on the board are apparently from UMC, and the id's are:
UM82C491F 9413-ACS N21466 and
UM82C493F 9411-BHS 112421

I have been able to boot the machine. It says: AMIBIOS (c) 1993 American Megatrends Inc.
The BIOS ID is: 40-0100-001112-00101111-080893-UMC491F-H.
I could install the memory, and the the system is properly recognizing the installed 36 Meg.
The problem is that the CDROm drive, a NEC 2 speed, is not detected. It is installed as a Slave drive. The Master drive is a Maxtor 345 Meg drive.

I tried the CDROm alone. It works fine. The floppy also works fine. Floppy and Hard disk work fine.

I am using a QD6500 A Disk controller card (manufactured in China).
I must say that the same card, Hard disk and CDROM work fine when installed together with another legacy motherboard and another 486 DX2 66MHz processor. I prefer however to use the 4D33 motherboard because it has at least one PCI slot and accepts 72 Pin SIMMS.

I have tried to figure out the jumper settings on the 4D33 Aquarius motherboard, but without manual, I am afraid to cause more damage.
I have also tried many combnations on the Controller card. With no success.
I could not find an upgrade for the BIOS. On the Megatrends website they say that they don't support the specific motheboard, becasue it was not made in the US.
It would be great if someone could help.

Thanks in advance.

486 Dx2? Wow, I remeber those when I was a young teenager (age now 29). Would it not be easier, and cheaper in the long run, to go with todays newer processors?
