mobo fsb giving middle finger

I have a FIC va-503+ motherboard using a via MVP3 chipset. It freezes constantly and does all kinds of other rude things, and I honestly doubt that the OS is the cause. So naturally I tried to change the FSB or the memory speed. If I set the memory to run at AGP speed instead of FSB speed it just makes vulgar beeping noises until I shut it off. If I set it to any other FSB than 100, it just plain out doesn't boot, even though all my jumpers are in the correct places. Any ideas and suggestions to make it stop ignoring my bus settings would be splendid. Also, I have PCB 1.1a with the latest bios for it if anyone actually decides to help me and does additional reading. Thank you.

what operating system are you running and what other hardware do you have. there could be problems w/ something else. ex: overloaded Power Supply, Win98 1st edition, drivers, etc. new drivers help if you don't already and trying bios settings on default.

I have windows me, a voodoo 3, sound card, one hd, one cd drive, wireless network card, tv tuner, and that's all. Tried default bios and latest drivers already. 250w ps, which should be plenty for a system like that.

Summary: I though I would have to increase the motherboard FSB first to then be able to increase CPU frequency to get a CPU bus speed minor or equal to mobo FSB. I think I'm wrong because increasing CPU MHz au...
Summary: There may be a dipswitch or jumper on the MOBO that gives you the option of FSB 100MHz vs. 133MHz. Then, the FSB in BIOS should match the FSB set by jumper or dipswitch on the MOBO. ...
Summary: 1st of all, the multiplier on a P4 is locked...even if you change the setting on the mobo, it will have no effect...there's no way to unlock it. Your FSB should be set at 100mhz as WeEZeR said. 400FSB...
