Comment:

I'm getting some new memory so that I can overclock my fsb to 400mhz. I have a A7N8x and I was wondering if I have chosen a good module - Corsair Twin 512 PC3200LL. Would it be better for overclocking to get a twin pack and run it in dualchannel mode, or just a single stick and run it in singlechannel. Thanks

Dual channel is practically worthless on a socket A system...

"in theory, a dual-channel memory link does not bring any benefits since the data rate is limited by the FSB bus's bandwidth. It's fixed at a maximum 200 MHz (Athlon XP 3200+) to give a bandwidth of 3.2 GB/s. Even using fast dual DDR400 memory with an access time of 6.4 GB/s has no effect on the Front Side Bus bottleneck of 3.2 GB/s. With that in mind, it's really not so inappropriate to question dual-channel memory technology on the Socket A platform."

Jam is right, I myself got sucked into the dual-channel Socket A "scam", admittedly it does give a small performance increase but at the same time it brings about other problems. To start with it will limit your max FSB and you will need to over-volt your RAM to around 2.7v in order for it to work in dual channel at above 195MHz.
