I have a Pentium 4 3.2 GHz CPU and when I am in BIOS, I got to hardware monitor and it shows the CPU temp at 65 celcius. Is this too hot for the CPU or is normal for being idle?

I went to that website and it says "Min/Max operating temperature (°C) 5 - 70" so mine is running at 65 in BIOS so there is something wrong since that is kind of high temp for idle?

First off the P4 is thermally protected so it isn't like you risk "frying" the CPU. Secondly your concern with that figure is pretty much a concern because the CPU is not going to buckle under that temperature, in other words, there is no performance degradation at that temperature.

Those CPU's do run a little hot at idle using stock cooling, if you want to soothe your nerves, you are free to invest in an aftermarket cooling package but it is not a necessity.

Try this program to see if it throttles down..

If it doesn't throttle down, then you can ignore your temperatures since P4 has built-in protection...

That's a normal temperature for a CPU under load. If it's an idle temperature, then it's a bit high for a P4. My P4 stays just a few degrees above ambient temperature, which is around 33C.

If it's been installed a while, the thermal pad might be flaking. Is there alot of dust bunnies in the heat sink? If it's new, are you sure you've installed it correctly?
