Hi, can someone please tell what the maximum temperature for the P4 1.8A Ghz (Northwood) CPU? I read a lot of messages and stuff on the web saying that it should be around 50'C... even at full load. But playing 3D games, mine goes up to 67'C. This is freaking me out :(

The P4 1.8A GHz chip can acctually work just fine with tempratures to 73'C. After that, it gets a little shakey.

Most new motherboards have thermal sensors that the BIOS uses and will display for you in BIOS settings.

I was doing a research for my 1.7 ghz...i went through maybe 30 windows (literally) trying to find it. I remember finally finding it...it's 76C for most (if not all) of their p4 chips from 1.6 ghz to 2.4 ghz.
For an intel, above 50C is usually rare...I've never seen it happen except when people are having problems. I usually don't go above 46C under heavy load.
To check your temperature, either download motherboard monitor or download a utility from your motherboard manufacturer's website. You have to have a modern motherboard.
Or you can buy a probe...i have a case with a digital thermometer...it has a probe, so if i want to know the temperature, i just need to lean over and read the temperature on the front of the case

First of all, thank you to everyone who replied to my message. Having a CPU temp at 68'C is not very good, I agree. However, what should I do? Is it because of the intel's heatsink / fan?
