Hi,

I've got a new laptop, it pretty much always had problems with overheating but now that I've moved in a warmer city it's just plain unusable...it will crash every 30 minutes or so, sometime not allowing me to reboot (screen stay blank) until it cool down a bit.

I know about desktop cooling quite a bit, I can add fans, etc...it's easy. How do you go around to helping cool down a laptop? I mean case fan won't do much...adding thermal compound well seems risky....help please???

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.....does your Laptop use a Fan on the heatsink,or does it use just a heatsink? Either way, you need to get into the case, and check to see what's being used to cool your laptops CPU. If it does use a fan, i'd replace it with an Aftermarket fan which pushes more air. And Hey! You said it's new; isn't it warranted? If so, LET THE MANUFACTURER FIX IT... LOL Some place's give loaners for customers when a warranty repair comes into the shop. I'd check that first, since you probably cannot be without your Laptop. If the warranty has expired, you need the manual showing the internal setup of your computers hardware. This can usually be downloaded from the Manufacturers site. It's possible it's something simple, like the heatsink clogged with dirt and dust. This happens to computers far more often then most realize. Or, it could be that the heatsink was not properly installed in the first place, and the contact between it and the CPU core is bad. You did mention it's been doing this from the beginning. Do you know how to correctly mount a Heatsink? It must be done right. Otherwise, you can count on the effected computer to overheat! If you have other questions, write me. Perhaps I can help you correct this problem.
Hope this helps! :-)

Hi JayT,

Well laptop is new for me :P but it's not a new one, sorry I didn't explain that better. There's a fan on the CPU, I'm very well versed with desktops system...I just don't feel confortable poping the hood of a laptop, lol guess I'll have to as their is a first to everything...

I just always thought that laptop were better protected against dust, etc as they are not as easy to clean. Guess I'm wrong.

Do you think just vacumming through the fan grid would do too?
