I have a new laptop, quadruple-booting Windows Vista Business, XP Pro, 98, and Ubuntu Linux.

When I run Windows 98, I can't get the fan to shut up. It spins at full speed the whole time--annoying as hell because it's one of those small and whiny fans.

When I use Ubuntu, Vista, or XP the fan rarely even starts up at all--nice and quiet!

Any way around the fan problem with 98? I'd really like to stick a pen in there to stop it, but I don't think that's a good idea (lol)!

how often do you realistically run Win98 for anything?

Possibly 98 does not know how to deal with the fan. I'm sure default settings will put the cpu at full speed to prevent the machine from burning up.

Jam-Around 2 hours per week. I didn't put Win98 on this machine for nothing.

Outlander-is there any way around this (using either software or hardware)? There are no fan settings in the BIOS that I can find.

Thanks
