Hey everybody with processor knowledge! :)

I have bought a Compaq laptop with WINXP SP2, 512 MB DDR RAM, a Sempron 2800+ Mobile and an integrated ATI xPress 128 graphics chip. I was stunned to find out that my favorite DirectX 8.0 games run on the laptop at least as well as with my desktop machine, even though the latter has a Geforce4 Ti4600 in it, max detail with both.

However, there has become a new laptop model available. It is within my rights to return this purchase of mine to the store and buy the other one instead, if I wish. This new model is similar in all mentioned respects, but it has a Sempron 3000+ Mobile in it.

Sempron 2800+ has a clock speed of 1.6 GHz and an L2 Cache of 256 KB.
Sempron 3000+ has a clock speed of 1.8 GHz and an L2 Cache of 128 KB.

Which of these is more powerful pixel cruncher? Somehow I feel that the current model might be faster, at least with 3D games -- the 0.2 GHz difference should be easily overridden by double the cache size. Am I correct, please?

Sempron 2800+ @ 1.6 GHz w/ L2 Cache of 256 KB would be my choice.

The L2 cache is of more advantage between the two.

My sig is on sabbatical.

I'd also keep the one (2800+) you have...no question about it.
