Comment:

I have an ECS K7SEM Motherboard with an Athlon XP 1700+ processor and 256 Mb SDRAM. By default the system set the processor at a freqvency of 1.1 Ghz. When I tried to set the clock to 133/133/33, the system boots but it freezes after 3 - 5 seconds, before starting the OS. Then I should reset the CMOS to start again. So I set the freqvency at 112/112/34 and the processor speed is 1.232 Ghz.

Greetings and salutation bro. I had the same problem with my ECS Motherboard. Iv done about a week of trouble-shooting, and no solution yet so I figure its not worth my time. So I returned that mofo(mobo) and bought myself a "SY-KT333 DRAGON Lite" which works like a charm. I will NEVER buy another ECS mobo. Iv learned that when you buy the cheap, you should expect the Crap. I also have a "SY-KT400 DRAGON Ultra (Platinum Edition)" which is better than the ECS mobo even in the box.

With ECS motherboards, you need high quality RAM and power supply. The k7sem is notorious for stability problems with small power supplies. I use ECS motherboards almost exclusivly and I have never had to return one.

I too use ecs motherboards exclusively.

Have the K7VTA3 vs.

It is totally stable with Samsung DDR333.

Christian, are you sure you are using pc133, and not pc100?

Also, what cooling solution are you using? It could be enough when you are underclocking the thing, but when it reaches regular speeds, freezes up due to heat. There are sevral possibilities here.

what version is that k7sem? 1.0 or verB?. the first revision has problems running at 133/133/33 and the second version runns it alot more stable.

It really sounds to me like something isn't up to the job. to run 133/133/33, you must use pc133. pc100 will either not POST or lock up quickly.

An underpowered system would do alot of things. The most common is run fine when underclocked and lock up sporadically. How are your voltages in the BIOS when running 100/100/33?
133/133/33?

I've also got a K7SEM (v1.1) with 1.4GHz and I have mobo heat problems. It runs around 48-52 deg C, depending on what I'm doing and will often freeze on me. CPU temp seems fine, tough.. I previously ran v1.0 of the board, but had to get a new one, because it seemed to occasionally 'lose' the hard drives.... Any ideas?
