Subject: K7s5a biosOS: winxpCPU/Ram: xp2000/512ddr2100 |
Comment: I want to overclock my system (K7S5A mb, xp2000 cpu, 512ddr 2100 ram, volcano9 hs/fan, 300 watt power). It seems one easy way to start is incrementing the FSB in the BIOS. Problem is K7S5A Bios only allows 100/100 or 133/133. Do I have to download a new bios off the net? How do I locate my current bios version?

Reply: (edit)sounds like ure a newbie overclocker. i would suggest u be careful!!!! u got a good system already !!u dont need to overclock at all!! especially if u have a good video card! but if u want to be stubborn and take risks for some extra speed.....then..... Ok here it goes... if u cant change the fsb on the motherboards BIOS look for a new one to flash to so u CAN overclock....if u CANT do that then look on ure motherboard for voltage jumpers or little square boxes with 4 levers on the box on ure motherboard...refer to ure manual on which one increases ure voltage BUT WARNING IT INCREASE THE SPEED OF URE MOTHERBOARD TOO PCI SLOTS AND WHAT NOT so if u do that make shure u dont make ure mobo unstable. u CAN destroy cards in pci slots and such if u overclock so be careful read around on ure mobo and whos overclocked with it. im not shure if the mobo u have is very overclockable. so on ure next system or upgrade i would recomend some MSI mobos for overclocking or ASUS and/or SOYO good luck hope this helps!! :)

Reply: (edit)The ECS K7S5A is not made for overcloking. I think the only thing u can adjust is the FSB, very limited at best though. As far as uping the FSB, i would check for an updated bios version. I have the same board with the bios that came with it, and there is nothing resembeling overclocking options at all. No jumpers/dip switches are on the board for overclocking, so don't bother looking for them..there not there.

Reply: (edit)I use the honeyx bios on my k7s5a and it works great! I haven't gotten past 143/143 but I haven't tried too hard. Sorry I don't have a link to the honeyx bios but I'm sure you can google search it. Also some things to be aware of w/ k7s5a: Set mem and cpu fsb up together, so 133/ 133 or 143/143 but not 133/143. Everyone I know has taken a preformance hit by decreasing one but not the other. Also you may need to replace the sis chipset's heatsinc. This is a relativly easy process to do and adds a lot of system stability. http://pub65.ezboard.com/fk7s5amotherboardforumfrm5.showMessage?topicID=261.topic Feel free to e-mail me if you would like furted advice about OCing the k7s5a, it is my mobo of choice so I have a few.
