Hi, i just wanted to ask a few questions about the AMD athlon CPU's. 1. When you buy a new boxed AMD Athlon CPU, how do you know what the FSB is, because i bought my XP2200 from a store and i asked for a 133MHz FSB one and yeah i got one, but how do you know what it is. 2. I heard that you can do a wire trick with them, so that you can change the multiplier, especially with the XP2200 and i wanted to know how to do it, i read about it on some site, i just wanted to know if this is possible? And my last question is, could someone please tell me all the real time clock speeds of the athlon? i know what the 1800+ is and the 2100+ and the 2200+, but i don't know the rest.

Thanks for your time, Daniel

The early Athlons (Thunderbird core) ran at either 100 FSB (200) or 133 (266). All XP's (Palomino or Thoroughbred core) run at 133 (266)...the newer Barton core runs at 166 FSB (333) or 200 (400). Did you get a Palomino or a Thoroughbred? If the CPU core is square, it's a Palomino...if it's rectangular, it's a Thoroughbred.

If you got a T-bred, the multipliers are already unlocked...so depending on your mobo, you may not need to use the "wire trick". It's generally needed to release the multipliers above 12.5x. If you do a search in this forum (top of the screen next to Computing.net logo), you'll find it's been mentioned many times & there are links posted that will take you to sites explaining exactly how it's done.

I'm not gonna bother to list all the XP models & their speeds, that stuff's readily available if you'd just take the time to search.

If you have an amd xp in your hand there will be a product number on it. Here is a 2200+. The product number starts with axda2200...

here's how to decipher what it means.
