Comment:

I am installing a new processor in an old computer for my sister for Christmas (PII-300 to $60 PIII-500 off ebay). My motherboard (ECS Pb6x-A+) apparently has a secret jumper to set the bus speed from 66 to 100. I haven't changed the jumper yet, but the bios seems to have made it the right speed (i.e. 500 mhz) by I think adjusting the clock multiplier. Do you think I still should change the jumper setting ?

the multiplier is locked, so even if the BIOS would want to change the multiplier, it can't.

Its quite possible the BIOS is telling you ther name of the cpu, not the actualy clock speed.

download the program wcpuid and see that the real clock speed is.
