I am updating my Mobo and processor. The board is a gigabyte mfg brand, the processor included on the board is a Intel Celeron 1.2Ghz, does anyone know the performance of this CPU? Is is a reliable piece?

If you haven't already bought this, think hard first.

The AMD Duron is just as cheap, if not cheaper and performs better.

In fact, an Athlon 1,1 ghz will only hit you for $60, and the motherboard for it is also $60 (uses Pc133 RAM).

Gigabyte mobos' are good(able to overclock) but I would choose
an Athlon over a Celeron as well.

Yes the Celeron would be reliable. They are very stable (I'm currently trying to replace a 566 Celeron with a 1.1ghz Celeron, but I'm not replacing my Mobo).

I agree with the above posts though, if you're going to all the trouble to replace a CPU and Mobo anyway, why not put in one that's faster? The Athlons are reasonably cheap and fast.

You limit your options with a micro-ATX board. Are you getting this because you have a micro-ATX case? If so, I'd spend another $40-50 & get an ATX case with a minumum 300 watt power supply & then consider a different motherboard. I noticed the lack on an AGP slot in the above info...was that an oversight? Or does it have onboard graphics? Personally, I wouldn't waste my money on a board that doesn't have an AGP slot...generally speaking, onboard graphics suck! Of course, then you'll have the added cost of a video card. I guess it depends on what you're gonna be using your system for...

Unless you want to use Sdram that you already own i recommend getting a board that supports DDR memory. Its much faster than sdram.

Agreed! Don't bother getting a nice Athlon if you're going to use SDRAM. Get at least 256mb DDR (PC2100 is fine if you don't plan on overclocking) if you want your system to be as fast as it should be.

And definitely get the AGP slot.
