I tried to overclock my PC Chips mobo M741LMRT by going into the bios and changing the clock speed. It was originally at 66mhz x 7.5 to give 500mhz. I changed it to 100 mhz x 6 for 600mhz. After exiting the bios, all I got was a blank screen. After a few minutes of waiting, I turned off the computer and turned it on again. Again nothing. No memory test, just a blank screen. In fact, the monitor indicates that there is no signal coming at all from the computer.

Is my cpu history? Is there any remedy for this?

umm...most likely no. it could be but there's a fat chance of that. don't keep trying and trying. the thing you have to do though is reset your CMOS. to do this you have to move the jumper that's right next to your battery on your mobo. currently it should be on the middle and left pin. while its plugged in BUT NOT ON move it to the middle and right pin. that shorts it and resets your CMOS which is your BIOS. then you have to put it back to normal. then you should be up and running. and next time make sure you increase slower.

I've got the same board as that in another system. The jumper below teh case headers is not the clear CMOS jumper. The clear CMOS jumper is between the CMOS battery and teh case headers as your looking at the board installed in a case. The picture of the board in the manual doesn't show clearly where it is. Like JaPiNo said, clear is pins 2-3 and run is pins 1-2.

You're gonna have to either reset CMOS via an onboard jumper or pull the CMOS battery. If you pull the battery, 1st remove the power cord from the power supply, then remove the battery for a few minutes...then replace it & reboot. Your BIOS will have reset itself to all the default settings. Then go immediately into the BIOS & reset everything. This time, don't make such a big jump...the Celeron is designed to run at 66mhz FSB & may not even run with a 100mhz FSB setting...even if set at 500 (5 x 100).

Have a look at this chart for some recommended overclock settings...notice that the 100mhz FSB setting didn't make the list:

PC Chips' mobos arean't exactly steller overclockers. The max I could an XP1600+ upto on a PC Chips 810LMR was 142 * 10.5 and that was with the best memory the board would take. I tried to overclock my P3 450 on the same board as moonchong has and it would lock up frequently at at just 105 * 4.5!!!I think that's due to chipset limitations mind.

Well about the CMOS I don't know if it is right to do it, but I found out that instead of serching for that weird thing(actually not that weird), you can just take the Battery of the mobo for a few seconds and put it back inn it will then be like a reset...

Thanks everyone for your help. I managed to find the jumper and reset the CMOS. One thing to note is what JaPiNo said about having the computer plugged in but not on when resetting the CMOS. All documentation says to unplug everything, but didn't work unplugged.

Thanks again everyone.

We assume you have the 500 PPG Celeron and not a 533 flip chip I don;t remember if Intel made a 500mHz flip chip Celeron ??
.
The older Celeron 500 PPG (not a Flip Chip) can be clocked at 100mHz on some MoBos, even though the BIOS on older boards can't see it.

Question: Can I use a celeron 1G on this M741LMRT mobo? The doc says it only support celeron up to 433 and you guys using 500. So will the 1G celeron work ? Thanks a lot.
