Hi there!
For the last week or so, my computer has been sporadically rebooting itself for no particular reason. There is no particular thing that I'm doing when this happens, but sometimes it'll go for hours without rebooting, sometimes just minutes.
One time when it restarted, it went straight to BIOS and said something about my CPU being set at the wrong speed and to adjust it accordingly. The thing is I never overclock my CPU, I always run it at 2.53ghz which is it's regular speed.
Have run a complete Ad-aware scan, and Norton AV scan.. nothing. I have recently (month or so ago) put in a new cooling fan, and the motherboard is only 6 months old.
HDs are fine, and so is power supply.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Maybe its time for some dusting & cleaning.
Do you get errors when it reboots ?
There is only one satisfying way to boot a computer.

Make sure the box next to "Automatically Restart" is unchecked under Startup & Recovery > System Failure
Hellz Yea!

Hi there!
Sabretooth, most of the time I don't get errors when it reboots, just that one "overclocked" message.
The last couple of times I've had messages about how the registry was recovered. Nothing else.
Jam, won't that be more harmful if there is something wrong with the CPU?
Thanks guys.

Update!
Well, I've just spent all afternoon cleaning my PC inside and out. Also, I installed Motherboard Monitor to see if the CPU was overheating.
But... it is still shutting down... last time it happened, the CPU was reading at 19C so it's obviously not overheating!
The weird thing is, that the past few times it's shut down... it's shut down, and then a few seconds later (last time it was 2 minutes later) it starts up again! From cold! All on it's own!!
Any ideas? I'm lost!

sounds like a motherboard problem...try going into your bios and checking to see if everything looks ok.
Nothing's broken until you choose not to fix it.

As an afterthough, have you tried resetting you bios?
