Hi,

I have an ASUS AMD A7V8X-X MOBO that runs on winxp pro, 512 ddr 1.8 gig processor, 40 gig hd, and ati radeon 9600 pro card. I installed speed fan to measure the temp of my PC and a few months ago, the highest temp it would reach is 47 - 50 degrees celcius.

Now, speed fan shows that my pc has a temperature of 60 to 62. When I play madden 2004, the temperature escalates to 65 degrees. Is my computer running too hot at this point?

All fans a running fine. I have a fan in the side of the case, and at the back. The fan on the CPU seems to be running fine as well.

What is the acceptable range in temperature for a PC with those specs?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Rashar

The 60C mark is usually time for concern, while it's not dangerously hot, it's hotter than most would like their CPU to be. Hard gameplay will definiely heat up the CPU though. What's your average room temp & system (case) temp?

You'll have to somehow verify that your temp readings are accurate. Usually getting it up to full temp, then quickly shutting down, pulling the power cord, opening the case, & carefully touching the heatsink will give you a general idea. Is it hot, or warm?

Also, you may need to re-evaluate your case cooling setup. I'm not a fan (no pun intended) of side case fans, but since you have one, it should be blowing into the case...the rear fan should be exhausting warm air out of the case. Adding an additional intake fan in the lower front of the case (if you have a mounting location) may help some.

I agree with jam on this one. I've seen set-ups with 4, sometimes 5, fans all blowing inward. All this does is circulate the heat that has bult up in there already. As jam said, one pulling cool air in from the side and one sucking the headted air out of the back. Works for me.

Well just a little fun suggestion. My CPU was running about 145 degrees when i got unreal 2k3 cranking and windows media player the basics you know. Well i found a more effective and cheaper way to solve it. I got on svc.com and ordered a 60 to 80mm fan adapter and a 84 cfm 80mm fan to throw on it. Well the adapter would fit on my volcano heatsink so instead i used my old athlon xp 2000+ stock heatsink. Well, now i havnt seen it go over 110 degrees.By the way im running a 2600+.

Hey Rashar, is summer in your place hot, cool or normal?

If it is hot in your surrounding, it is only normal. Mine goes up to 53c.

If it is cool, it is not normal. I suggest you find a computer technician, or go to your nearest computer shop.

If it is normal in your surrounding, It may or may not go to 50c. Really depends on your cooling.

Thanks for all your replies!

I found the main problem. I took off the fan off the heat sink, and behind it on top of the heatsink had a good layer of dust clogging it. I gave my PC a good vacuum, put everything together, and now I am 25 degrees Celcius cooler.

Thank you all for your help.
