Hello,
I bought a used AMD Athlon 800 and motherboard to build a system with. I've only dealt with Pentium's before, so I didn't know that the multipliers were locked. Although not sure, I read that they were locked at 8x.
After installing everything, I found out that my multiplier is at 8.5x, after fiddling with FSB speeds and comparing to the clock speed listed at startup.
I also have been having my processor run hotter than it should (usually in the 50-57 degree range). I haven't really looked into how the multiplier is changed. Is it possible that maybe the guy I bought it from changed the voltages as well, which would make the chip run hotter? Thanks.
-Dustin
