I have a P4 Mainboard model P4S5MG/GL+ and i would like to know if i put a P4 3.06GHz 533 FSB 512KB can the board handle it? when i bought the board back in 2002 the 3.06GHz was not out. The user's guide says it can support 1.4GHz to 2.2GHz, FSB 400/533MHz.. Will this cpu work? thanks

What are you upgrading from and have you already purchased the Pentium 4 3.06G - 3.06GHz (133x23) that you are asking about?

The answer to that will help you get a more articulated response.

If the board supports cpus with the 533MHz bus, then yes, the 3.06/533 will work.

You may need to update the BIOS to take advantage of the new chip's hyperthreading capabilities.

My Super P3:
Pentium III-S 1.4GHz @ 1.58GHz, 512K L2
X800XT All-in-wonder, overclocked to 580/600.
250GB HD
2 gigs of PC2100 RAM
QDI Advance 12 mobo, this baby rocks!

The move may have been worth it, considering you are going from the (S478) 1.8GHz to a 3.06GHz - depending on how much you actually paid for the 3.06GHz & provided everything goes according to plan.

Now while you are waiting on the 3.06GHz to arrive, this would be the time & a nice opportunity to upgrade your BIOS to the latest available for that motherboard, especially since the 3.06GHz is not on the supported list of CPU, but my guess is, it ought to work.

Goodluck!

Ha! A little Duyba moment - heh..........LOL

Download CPU-Z, it *should* disclose the motherboard details without your needing to pop the side cover.

I am unable to answer your first question because I could not find anything on the MS-6544E from MSI.

On the second part - I support the memory upgrade plan.

Well, the MS-6566E does support the 400/533MHz FSB, so all earlier responses (including the BIOS comment) remain valid.

845E Max (MS-6566E) v6.1 BIOS Date - 9/24/2004

The BIOS update suggestion was made as a precautionary measure, you don'r have to if you don't want to.
