Comment:

I will be installing a 2.8ghz p4 into my asus p4s533 with 533mhz fsb mobo tomorrow.

Right now, I have a 1.7ghz p4 installed in it.

I am fairly experienced with installing and uninstalling hardware, but processors...not a lot.

Anyway, I to use my grounding wrist strap and unhook the old heatsink and fan, then unlatch and take out the old processor.

From there, do I just put in the new processor, re-latch it, put on heatsink, then fan, then latch that?

Then, my other question is this: Do I have to change any settings in my BIOS for the new processor or will it do it automatically? For instance, the FSB for my new processor will be 533mhz. Will I need to adjust something?

Lastly, what kind of performance boost should I see with games and all? I have an ATI Radeon 9800 128mb non pro with 1GB PC2700 ram.

All P4 boards are jumpless, and do not require any setting when new CPU is intalled. Unless, you overclocked the previous and changed the BIOS setting.

In your case the 1.7 is 400mhz and the new one 2.8 IS 533mhz; your board is 400/533 there is no adjustment required. 2.8 comes with 200x4 (800 mhz), make sure you have the right one for your board.

Unless something has changed since he last posted, he's gonna attempt to run a P4 2.8ghz/800FSB on a 533FSB board

No no, I cancelled the 800 order and made a 533 order.

I installed the 533 and it works great.

When R & R'ing CPUs, be sure to clean and reapply thermal paste.
