Hi there.
I am in desperate need of upgrading my PC. I think it is quicker to use Royal mail than it is to send an e-mail on my system!
I am looking at increasing the RAM and the Hard Drive and i was wondering how difficult this is?
With the RAM, do i just simply plug it in and the computer does it for me? I currently have 64 MB RAM and is there a limit to how much i can put in it?
Also with the hard drive, i am looking at increasing the size of it. It is currently 4 GB and really i have the same questions. How straight forward is it to put in? Would it be better to simply buy something like a smart media port and store extra data on that?
I would appreciate any help
Thanks

Since you didn't give any details about your system (i.e. motherboard, CPU, operating system), it's difficult to give a straight answer.
RAM is a very simple upgrade...just pop it into the slot & you're done. However, some motherboard chipsets have problems recognizing high density RAM, & if you have an old board (socket 7), many of them don't cache over 64mb of memory. Adding more than the 64mb cache limit will significantly slow your system's performance...so you have to know what your capabilities are before you get started.
Adding a new hard drive is fairly simple too, but it depends on how you wanna go about doing it. Do you wanna keep you 4GB HDD as the primary drive & add a 2nd drive for storage? Or were you planning on installing the OS on the new drive? Chances are, installing a new drive won't change your performance much, if at all.
