Hi guys.As most of you know ive overclocked my athlon 2000+xp to 2gig.The Vcore is currently at the default 1.6-1.65.I was wondering, if I increase the Vcore by 5%, will I see any improvements?

Well, what is the default setting for your CPU...1.60 or 1.65v?

AXDA2000DKT3C = 1.65v

AXDA2000DUT3C = 1.60v

Raising the vcore doesn't improve performance...but many times, it's necessary to stabilize an overclock, or to allow you to overclock even further.

Higher voltage usually means higher temps & a higher risk of frying your CPU. I'm a bit surprised it wasn't necessary for you to raise your vcore to hit 2Ghz. Last I recall, your FSB was at 161mhz...did you have to raise the vdimm (RAM voltage) to get your PC2100 to run at that speed? Have you tried to go any higher? Raising the vdimm or vcore (or both) may allow you to hit the 166mhz mark (& beyond)...

Have a look at how I attacked my 1800+ a few months ago. Just so you know, I've had this same CPU for quite a while. It used to be on my AOpen AK73 Pro(A) board with PC133...I was running it at 11.5 x 145mhz (1667mhz, same as 2000+). I'm not as concerned about overall CPU speed as I am about the higher FSB. FSB is where the speed is!

right then jam.The Vcore of my cpu is 1.6.The vcore of an athlon 2400+xp(what mine is since overclocking)is 1.65.What I meant by 1.6-1.65 is that my vcore seems to fluctuate between those amounts(1.60-1.65).If I increase my vcore it will put it to 1.725.Do I really need to?As answer to your latter question" Last I recall, your FSB was at 161mhz...did you have to raise the vdimm (RAM voltage) to get your PC2100 to run at that speed? Have you tried to go any higher? "No mate, I havent increased anything other than the cpu and ram fsb to 161mhz.I have an option in my bios to increase ram tolerence.When I enabled this, it set the ram to 161.Whether it increased the voltage or not I don't know.All I did was set the cpu to 161 to match cos as you said, its better to have them at 1:1.

BTW.I have incresed my fsb to 166, but for an inrease of about 50mhz or summat, I thought it wasent worth the risk so I put it back.

There really isn't much risk in raising the FSB...at some point, the system will either become unstable, or it simply won't boot, then you just back it off to the last stable setting...

However, if you increase the voltage to try to stabilize the system at the higher FSB setting, that can be risky. Just use common sense & keep an eye on the CPU temp...don't bump the voltage straight to 1.9v or 2.0v, do it a little at a time, just as you would do the FSB. Most newer boards allow voltage increases in 0.025v increments. For example, if it's unstable at 166mhz/1.65v, keep the FSB at 166 & try raising the vcore to 1.675v...still no good, try it at 1.70v....& so on. You have to be the judge as to whether the risk is worth the gain...

I think im gonna get myself some faster ram next week so I can up it some more.If my 133 goes at 161.I think ill try 166 at 194=2.4 gig.WOW!I know you may think this is too much for my cpu, but pcmark04 AND everest say it has a maximum internal clock of 3000mhz!?

Don't waste your time with PC2700...go with PC3200.

What till is trying to say is that running with a higher FSB is better/faster than running the CPU at a higher speed with a lower FSB.

10 x 200 is better than 12 x 166, which is better than 15 x 133. All three of those configs put the CPU at 2000mhz, but the 1st one is fastest because of the higher FSB. Even if you clocked to 2100mhz (12 x 175), 2000mhz @10 x 200 one would STILL be better.

If I remember correctly, your multiplier is locked?

Since you're obsessed with the "quest for speed" & since you believe that your CPU is capable of 3000mhz, get yourself some PC3200, set the FSB at 200mhz, & the CPU should easily run at 2500mhz...lol

Hi jam.I would love to get pc3200 but as my mobo only has a fsb of 333, I believe its pretty pointless getting ddr400(even though my mobo takes it).However, I will try some ddr2700, increase ram tolerence which should put the fsb to about 194. 194/12.5=2.4ghz.I believe thats the max im gonna get out of this motherboard!
