Hi,
I have a HP pavilion 7975 2GHZ and a asus P4B-LA. The Asus P4B suppose to be a great motherboard to overclock but I think HP has removed al the overclock features in my BIOS cause about the only thing I can change in my BIOS is the time :(.
Can somebody tell me how I can increase my (FSB which is at a 100MHZ right now)when it isn t in my BIOS?
Is there a program I can use to do this or do u think I have to upgrade my BIOS or is there anything else I can do?
I ve been looking on the web for days I would really appreciate a reply.

you now understand why not to buy a proprietary system...you cannot do much with them....btw, your FSB is at 100? that sucks !

Do NOT UPGRADE YOUR BIOS.
YOU WILL NEED A NEW MOTHERBOARD IF YOU DO.

TRUST ME.

Yeah i had the same sort of problem when i bought a dell...those B******s at dell use a proprietary board which u cant change cause they also use a proprietary case.
If you want to keep your case and put a new dell mobo in u cant cause the tossers won't sell u one..... lesson learned 'never buy from the big boys' better and cheaper to build ur own.

There is no reason to NOT uograde your BIOS as long as you use the correct version intended for the motherboard you have.

YOU CAN NOT MIX AND MATCH OR SWAP BIOS CODE. Do not even try to flash update the .bin code from one manufacturer to another brand board. It will NOT work.

If you have a HP computer. Your better off with using it as a paper weight than trying to overclock the FSB. Give up and DO NOT CHANGE YOUR BIOS. You will kill your board or bios chip if you try to use another bios. Your better off with 100Mhz FSB than none at all (because your computer won't boot).

Anyone here ever heard of softFSB?
Do a search and hope your mobo is supported, you at least need to know what chipset it has.

You can flash it as long as you have the original ver saved. Then you just flash it with the original if the other doesnt work.

I got the internal soundcard to work!!!. (was disabled on my mobo)

It was a bit tricky but got it all working..
But no luck with running a ASUS bios on the machine.

The steps to activate the internal AC97 soundcard is: (on my machine anyway)
1. download the Asus P4B-MX bios (ver. 1004)
2. copy aflash and the bios to a bootable floppy.
3. start aflash and save the current bios. (IMPORTANT)
4. flash the MX bios and power down after the flashing procedure.
5. Enter the bios and reset to defaults.
6. Save the settings and power down.
7. Enter the bios setup again and disable the IDE controller to be able to boot from the floppy.
8. Boot from the floppy, but do not be afraid when you just see "Starting MS-DOS" and the floppy stops. It will continue after 20-30
seconds.
9. Start aflash and restore the original P4B-LA bios that you saved in the beginning.
10. Power down.
11. Power the machine up. Enter the bios and "Load bios defaults". (when you enter the bios this time you get a message that all
settings has been restored to factory defaults)
12. Save&exit. Power down.
13. Enter the bios and configure the stuff you want (boot devices and stuff like that)
14. Save and reboot.
15. Done... When the machine now comes up it will detect a new soundcard (AC97)

Oh, btw. If the machine still does not boot from the floppy when you do step 7 , dont be alarmed, you can continue and try to disable more and more
stuff in the bios. I dont remember the exact settings for it. But it's in there anyway so dont be alarmed if you do it and it starts by
not being able to boot from anything. Also it complains about that the powerlevels are bad. But this is probebly because the bios
reads from the wrong positions in memory.

The only thing that you should be afraid of is if the machine will not even get a picture on the screen. (like scanning for
disks/memory and stuff like that.)

Mobo type: P4B-LA rev 1.03

If anyone out there gets a asus bios to work good on the motherboard... Please send me a mail!
