I don't know about the rest of you, but my PC is essentially a games machine. I don't know how many of you knew this already, but I thought I'd put it up here incase it helps someone else.

START
RUN
DXDIAG
HELP
OVERRIDE
OVERRIDE VALUE = 85Hz or what ever your refresh rate is for your monitor.

This has increase my UT2k3 in-game fps from 35min 150max to 65min 300+max while I am playing. Highest detail. 800x600 AFx2

(1800xp running at 1900xp, rad9700pro)

Setting this value any higher than your monitor refresh rate will only shorten your monitor's life, and maybe bust it, so use this cautiously and dont blame me for anything you do :P

nope :)

Vsync for 99% of gamers is always off. This just sets some kind of synchronisity between the card and the monitor I believe.

minimum fps in ut2k3:

20fps vsync on
35fps off
65fps with this tweaked

hf all

So i guess you would notice a difference in gameplay afterall. Would there be noticble flickering errors or anything of that sort as a result of tweaking dx?

My monitor supports 85 hz at 1024X768, and will support a maximum resolution of 1280X1024. What should i set the refresh rate to?? 85? Could i set the refresh rate higher than the specified hz rating at 1024X768?? - using the dx tweak.

Yes you would see a lot of difference, and no there are no errors, objects, nor worse sync tearing.

I would suggest 85 for anyone capable of that, as a m8 has tested 100 already, and found 85 actually ran smoother.

However, its worth trying 100 if your monitor supports is as my m8 who told me about it from NEC has a 100hz monitor and has an increased performance over 85.

The minimum this does its stops such dramatic falling in fps when you are playing, say a nuke goes off, or you have a lot of enemies on your screen, this just helps to keep the fps up.
