I have read other posts on these forums, updated my bios, reset the CMOS.No changes ,but there is something unique about my scenario. When I go to properties of my computer It displays 3.00 Ghz but right under that it displays 1.49ghz. My msinfo32 and CPUID are both showing 1.5 ghz. I will reset my cmos again tommrow. The only option in my Bios to modify anything CPU related is changing the clock speed to a decimal value between 100 and 160. My Mobo came with an overcloacking tool that can me used to boost CPU speed and voltage but I do not want to use it beacuse I shouldn't have to. I appreciate anyhelp you can give me.

It would help if you posted the make/model of your board. Maybe the board doesn't support your CPU?

I'm not an Intel guy, but I believe the 3.0Ghz Northwood is an 800FSB CPU? So it's clock setting should be 15.0 x 200mhz. If it's running at 1.5Ghz, your current clock setting is 15.0 x 100mhz (400FSB).

I also see a problem with your RAM. PC2100? If your board supports 800FSB, it probably supports dual channel memory as well. You should be running 2 sticks of PC3200 in dual channel mode to be in balance with the bandwidth of your CPU. PC2100 is choking off your system's potential.

Sorry about that it was pretty late and I was barely able to write that first explination I thought it might be a bit simpler. http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=GNB_Max-FISR&class=mb
My Mobo. Yes, my board does support dual channel but I dont have enough $ for the other stick nor have I found the option to enable it, my manual specified 2100 by name so I went with that. My clocki speed is currently set @ 100 X (I duno).

the website you referenced even says it's only a 400/533 FSB CPU

• Intel Hyper-Threading Technology
• Dual-Channel DDR266 Memory Bus (4.2GB/S Memory Bandwidth)
• 8X AGP
• 533 /400MHz FSB

i'm thinking that it's only reading 1/2 of the rated speed of the cpu, because you may have an 800 MHZ FSB prescott in and your board will not support that and the best it can do is 133 X 15 and it looks like it's set to 100 X 15...just a guess, you installed cpu is throwing off the readings
