My current system is a amd k6/2 500mhz with a sis530/5595 chipset mobo.
Today, i got my new Athlon 2200+ from Newegg.com Very cool, i ordered it at 7.30 in the mourning and i got it by 3.30. I taught i would have gotten a socket motherboard from my brother, but he didn't get it for me. So now it's time to buy a motherboard and some ram maybe.
I am only at some motherboards here at newegg, and some of them say things like FSB, and DDR SDRAM, and other stuff.
I did some reading up, and i pretty much understand some of these terms like now i now FSB deals with front side bus relating to the cpu. one thing i'm not aware of is how RAM is dealt with. Since i already have 128mb of sdram, i'm looking for a motherboard with sdram support with at least four pci slots, a agp, intergrated video, lan, audio.... That kinda board is very hard to find. (Anybody got a link)Or i have another option, sell my current stick of ram to my 'cheap' brother and get a motherboard with ddr ram support.
And one more question. What does it mean when motherboards have a feature that's like this, DDR SDRAM. Does it mean that i can support both DDR ram and SD ram in the same sockets, at the same time.

What is the best motherboard for AMD XP's
There's so many manufacturer's
ABIT
Biostar
AOpen
Asus
ECS
EPOX
Gigabyte
MSI
SOYO

Dump the sdram and go for the DDR-SDRAM. It is double data rate sdram.I dont know if they will use both types or not.I like Gigabyte or Abit is good. ddr comes in 3 or for different speeds 133 266 333 and I think now 400. 256 mb of ddr 266 is around 50$. Drop the idea of onboard video as well and get a good AGP card . Most boards for the XP have lan and sound and usb on board

There is only one motherboard currently on the market that supports both SDRAM and DDR SDRAM (not simultaneously) and that is the ECS K7S5A.

Yea, go for the DDR ram. check out the Aopen ak77-333 at Aopen.com. or the AK-75. there are several that will use the 2200+ CPU and on board sound has come a long way on these boards. Most MoBo's won't accept SDRAM and DDR RAM-one or the other only.

Like Ron Watts said, DDR means double data rate. SD stands for synchronous dynamic. So DDR SD is just Double Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic RAM.
As for the main board ... I'd suggest that k7s5a. It's cheap and reliable, however it wont be the fastest by far.

The board I recommend is:
ASUS A7V-333
http://www.asus.com/mb/socketa/a7v333/overview.htm
It's a very nice board, seems to have what you're after too.

I recommend.......
ECS K7VTA3 V3.1
But! Turn off on board sound (AC97). It is really a wasted bonus that is not up to standard!
It is a nice easy board to use, plus it supports DDR333 (PC2700) 333mhz memory.
