Hey, I'm having a little problem and wondering if it can be solved.
My CPU is overclocked to 2.3ghz (2800 166mhzx12.5multiplier by default - o/c'd to 184x12.5)
When I go on to websites (such a this one) IE sometimes crashes (I have XP also). When I ask for more information it come up with:

my CPU is currently running at 53oC idle, and about 58oC on full load (2700rpm on my fan).

So with all that information given, IE has only crashed when I have induced an overclock. What I'm asking is if I can keep my CPU overclocked without these crashes happening. Is there anyway?
Thankyou.

Your temps are higher than I'd like to see them. Have you stress tested your CPU? Try Toast...if it locks your system, you may have to rethink your overclock. You can download Toast here...along with a lot of other CPU related programs. I've tried Prime95, but you have to run it for hours...if your system survives 20min of Toast, it'll handle anything you throw at it:

Did you have to increase the vcore to stabilize your overclock? If not, that may be what's lacking. Also, did you try backing off on the FSB a little to see if that helps?

Try Toast on "high priority" & watch those temps climb! Then post back with your results...

Yeah I've got Toast and used it in the past, with the overclock it did restart my PC at 62oC. Anyway I've put it to the default clock now.
I can buy a Jet 7+ CPU fan for £16.50GBP. Do you think it's worth upgrading my fan at that price? OR should I buy two 80mm fans (as I have no other fans in my case) for £3.00.
I want my temperature to go down so I can overclock to 2.3ghz. Which do you reccomend Jam, New CPU fan or 2 80mm fans (considering the price)?
Thanks Jam,

You have no case cooling fans at all? I'd definitely do that 1st.

Have you tried running with the side panel off to see how much your temps go down? Do you have a small room fan that you can use to blow fresh air into the open case to see how it affects your temps?

BTW, what is your system temp? & your average room temp?

No I only have the fan in my PSU and my CPU fan. Without my case my temperature goes down to about 40oC, So I reckon I do need to buy some 80mm fans. My room temp is about 25oC, and my system temp is 26oC.

So I don't know if I have a heat problem in my case,

Not sure (doubt it) if the IE crash has any direct relationship with your higher temps, because I experienced similar IE crashes if I overclock beyond 2.52GHz on my 2600+.

Ironically the CPU runs @ a lower temp when I go beyond 2.52GHz (don't know why) than it does @ 2.52Ghz but IE crashes ever so often, my only work around the IE issue has been not to go beyond 2.52Ghz @ least not till I figure out why.

Btw it happens with another browser too, which makes me think this might be because the browser has a similar engine to IE.

Hmm, that's quite odd yes. I'll get two 80mm fans, as they are sooo cheap and see if that works. If not, i'll probably buy a Jet 7+ in a month or two.

Thanks for the info.
