This post is in reply to an older post (2005) with the subject ibm thinkpad fan problem. The fan runs only on startup and the computer overheats and shuts down after significant cpu intensive use. Please see below. Thanks.

I have an IBM Thinkpad A21m that has developed the same problem. It overheats and shuts down with heavy processor use. I have not found any solution to get the fan to run after startup. Any external fan should blow air out of the rear vent rather than into the rear fan vent, correct? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
