Ok, I've been hearing all this bad news that amd locked the multipler on the newer 2500+'s. I only have pc2700 memory (333mhz), and therefor don't wanna change the 2500+'s bus speed. I just want to change the multiplyer.
Therefore, does anyone know how I can FOR SURE buy a unlocked 2500+. I like to use newegg, but I've seen posts of people who are getting locked ones, which means all of new egg's are probally locked.

FSB is where the performance is. Generally, the benefit of an unlocked multiplier is so that you can lower it, not raise it...that way you can raise the FSB even higher without stressing the CPU.

Ahh...i didn't know that. I'm good with computers, but never have overclocked so i'm a noob at it.

Does this mean I shouldn't even overclock it at all? Since it's fsb is 333mhz and my ram's is also 333mhz?

Should I just go with the 2800+ then? Are the 2800+'s unlocked? :)

It all depends on your memory (PC2700). The Apacer PC2700 512 mb stick is running 380 mhz without any problem in my NF7. And, my Corsair PC2700 could get to 206 mhz.

I have Crucial pc2700 with a stock 2.5cas...if that helps at all. I haven't tried to overclock it yet, only because i'm running a 2100+ right now.
